The Illinois Republican Party this week added Democrat Mike Halpin, recently elected to the District 72 state House seat, to its list of allies of House Speaker Mike Madigan (D-Chicago) on www.BossMadigan.com.
Halpin joins state Rep. Eddie Jackson (D-East St. Louis) and state Sen. Bill Haine (D-Alton) as the latest additions to the state GOP website.
“Mike Halpin, Eddie Jackson and Bill Haine have all personally benefited from Mike Madigan, taking hundreds of thousands of dollars from Madigan in exchange for rubber-stamping his disastrous policies," Illinois Republican Party spokesman Steven Yaffe said. "As thousands flee Illinois, it’s time for them to admit their mistakes and work to oppose giving Madigan yet another term as speaker.”
Halpin already has benefited from his ties to Madigan. The Friends of Mike Halpin campaign committee received contributions of $143,454.63 on Nov. 15 and $65,995.61 on Nov. 18 from the Democratic Party of Illinois and the Democratic Majority, respectively. The committee's quarterly report showed $727,750.84 in total funds, including contributions made since Sept. 30.
Madigan chairs the Democratic Party of Illinois and determines which candidates are supported and receive contributions from the party. The Democratic Majority is a political party committee affiliated with the Democratic Party of Illinois.
BossMadigan.com was created to expose the campaign contributions received and voting records of Madigan supporters. The state GOP continues to put pressure on lawmakers to oppose Madigan's re-election as speaker.
