Republican businesswoman Christine Elsberg -- one of four candidates vying for positions as South Rock Island Township trustee -- recently offered voters a look into her qualifications via the South Rock Island Township Republicans’ Facebook page.
Elsberg maintains active ties with her community, serving on PTAs, booster clubs, Junior Achievement and other education-oriented organizations. Additionally, she serves as president of the Kiwanis Club of Rock Island and treasurer for UI’s Rock Island County Extension and 4-H Foundation, among other roles.
Having run the Christine Elsberg Insurance Agency Inc. in the immediate area for 30 years, the candidate is a long-time State Farm agent.
“Christine understands the importance of getting involved to make a difference,” the South Rock Island Township Republicans said on Facebook. “With her vast array of experience, Chris will be a valuable asset as trustee on the South Rock Island Township board.”
Township board trustees are responsible for verifying tax levies; adopting the yearly budget and appropriation regulation for all township-related funds; approving all expenses; and auditing bills payable.
South Rock Island will hold its municipal elections on April 4.
In addition to Elsberg, candidates for trustee include Kim Shuda, T.J. Krone and Gary Snyder, according to South Rock Island Township’s website. Additionally, Nichole Finnie is running for assessor; and Rodney Simmer, for supervisor.
South Rock Island is a township contained within the city of Rock Island but with its own distinct government. With the two jurisdictions situated in Rock Island County, both fall under the auspices of the RICo Republican Precinct, where committee members are able to facilitate selection of candidates for municipal elections every four years.
RICo GOP’s mission statement expresses the organization’s belief that “the most effective government is government closest to the people in their local communities.” It defines its mission as supporting the “best possible conservative candidates for office” at every level of government and its goal as providing forums for sharing ideas.
“We will support fair, legal elections untainted by voter fraud,” the organization said.
