The Rock Island County Republicans (RICo) recently celebrated the grand opening of their new headquarters at 500 16th St. in Rock Island.

The Feb. 25 ceremony featured a ribbon-cutting, refreshments and live accordion music, according to QCOnline.

The new headquarters is larger than the former headquarters, at 1721 5th Ave. in Moline, Bill Bloom, RICo chairman, said in the press release.

"It's beautiful," Bloom said in the release. "It's several times larger than the previous headquarters in Moline, with more window space for posting campaign signs. It's also a cost savings from the previous location. We don't (want) the people to think we're being extravagant with the money they donate.”

The building will also be used for community social events, Bloom said.

"We have a lot of opportunity for growth," Bloom said. "It's a very pragmatic move in that, you know, it's more space for supporting campaigns. We could easily support a state representative campaign if, hypothetically, we decided to go after the District 72 seat, which is held by Democrat Mike Halpin, two years from now."
