Editorial: The county clerk’s magician

Handshake02

The Bible says that “everyone who practices evil hates the light; he does not come near it for fear his deeds will be exposed.” (Jn 3: 20)

British politician Lord Acton put it another way: “Absolute power corrupts absolutely.” For decades Rock Island County (RICO) has been controlled by one party. That’s not healthy just as a diet of one single type of food is not good for your body. Something must give.

In the case of RICO, John Gianulis and Stuart Weinstein were the wizards behind the curtain. Before their deaths they mentored others, in particular, John Brown, Jr.

John Brown was the enforcer for John G. He was a quick learner and did his job well. His reward was the assistant county clerk position when John G. won his county clerk position.

John Brown was also elected to supervisor of RI Township where he was never brought up on charges of misappropriation of funds. While Brenda Carmen was a trustee, Brown approved her request to qualify for the assessor position. RI citizens also paid for Joan Clark to take the same course so she could help Brenda pass the assessor test. The charge should have been using public funds for personal gain.

Although the magician has retired, I would look for DEMs to resurrect Brown as chairman of their central committee. Can citizens expect fair elections now in RICO? Not likely. The cancer has spread to Nick Camlin. He drank the cool-aid just as John Brown did while being groomed by John Gianulis.

John was the magician because he would work his magic behind closed doors while counting the votes. Mr. Leibovitz never counted the vote that way. It was always out in the open. We finally figured out what John was doing in secret….Hartley insert…

We voters need to vote in a Republican county clerk in 2018.

Our poll watchers have heard RICO voters complain that when they touched the screen for one candidate, the vote would register for the opposing candidate. How can this be? Well, in this age of computerization, some wise guy developed a program to flip the votes. It’s called “fraction magic attack.” In this video clip, you can watch him testify before a Congressional committee. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NafAbO5qRrU or Google “US elections, RIGGED computer programmer testifies congressional meeting.”

Do I have proof that RICO owns the software program? No, but here’s some evidence. DEMs have controlled the first ward alderman spot in Rock Island for years. Two conservative thinkers have challenged the DEM candidate during the last 4 years. In 2013 Mr. Brooks received 180 votes out of the 547 cast. In 2017 Mr. Evans received 156 and Mr. Clark received 343. The vote totals are similar while the proportion going to the losing candidate was also very similar. Votes could have been flipped with a program like fraction magic attack. Another piece of evidence in the 2017 race was someone who wanted Mr. Clark as alderman was paying between $15 and $25 per vote. I know people who observed it.

Mr. Curtis says on the video that he prepared the software for Tom Feeney who, in 2000 was Speaker of the House in FL. Do you really think that Speakers from different states—especially key states like FL and IL—don’t talk with one another? If Feeney had it, Madigan had it. Software like this would help Madigan maintain control of his bobble heads in close races throughout the state. If Crook County had it, RICO had it.

We voters must elect a Republican county clerk in 2018.

The current county clerk is costing us taxpayers BIG bucks. She fired an employee, who had never during 8 years even had a verbal reprimand, for bullying. Coercing her female employees into writing complaints about the terminated employee sounds more like bulling to me. County attorneys in the civil division told Chairman Maranda that they don’t know what to do with this case because she was terminated without just cause. Jerry Clyde, HR director, has hired an outside attorney from Canton, IL, who has received upwards of $20K in taxpayer funds so far. AFSCME Union regional director Miguel Morga says “this is the dirtiest termination he has ever seen.”

Need I say more. Yes, there is more to say. If Karen Kinney didn’t spend so much time on Facebook during business hours, she might be a better supervisor of personnel. On Facebook Karen actively politicked for the DEM opponent to Scott Erickson, the Knox County Clerk. Scott could not believe it. He thought it was very unprofessional, and it was done on county time. You and I paid for it. Karen also endorsed Halpin for his 72d state representative race. Although all of the other elected DEMs did the same, the county clerk should remain neutral. She counts the votes.

I’m sorry if this sounds negative about RICO. My focus is strickly on the clerk’s office. There are many good things happening in RICO, as Chairman Maranda likes to say—especially since we hired Dr. Dave Ross as administrator, but they’re not happening in the clerk’s office. The leadership there needs a good flushing, and only you and I, the voters, can correct that situation.
