Silvis FD responds to 28 fires in 2016

Silvis Fire Department responded to 84 calls in 2016, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System obtained by the Rock Island Today.

The calls in Silvis included 28 fires - 15 structure fires, four vehicle fires and five other fires. The fire department also responded to four calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $5,000,500 in fire loss - or about $178,589 per fire.

The department also received 56 false calls, including seven malicious calls and 49 other false calls.

Two fire service members were injured in fire-related incidents.

The Silvis Firefighters' Pension Fund, which has one active employee and retired or inactive employee, was $12,051 positive as of April 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $430 for every fire in 2016.
