City of Colona Council Public Works Committee met October 5.

Here is the minutes provided by the Committee:

Call to Order: 5:00 p.m.

Roll Call: Aldermen Jones, Feliksiak, and Swemline answered present

Staff Present: Rick Crew Public Works Chief

Kathleen Palmer Office Manager

Janelle Nicewanner CSFP Manager

Public Comments:

Karen Scott spoke to the committee about being allowed back into the park for camping for the 2018 season. The committee recommends the Scotts be allowed to camp again at CSFP for 2018 with the following provision: if there are any problems the rest of this season or the first half of next, they will be permanently banned from camping at CSFP.

Public Works Agenda:

1. Mrs. Palmer discussed changing the policy on removing the garbage cost and water costs on houses that are foreclosed and also on mobile homes. How long would we like to continue rolling over water bills and garbage?

2. Mrs. Nicewanner reported that we have 13 new campers for next year, bringing us up to 93. We also have 13 weddings booked for the club house for next year, so far. As of October 4, 2017, the park is plus $104,162.95. Mrs. Nicewanner is going to attend the bridal show at a cost of $535.00. She will also attend the RV show, a 3 day event, Friday-Sunday, at a cost of approximately $350,00.

3. The committee is going to set rental for the Senior Center at $75,00 for 4 hours or $150.00 for 8 hours with a deposit of $100.00. Rental for the center will end at 10:00 p.m.

4. The committee discussed adding 20 more camp sites for next year with concrete pads for picnic tables and gravel for campsites. They also would have gravity sewer hookup included with 50 amp service to each site.

5. Discussed the drainage at Bollinger's Pond.

6. Discussed a request that a stop sign be installed at the corner of E5"Ave and Greenway Ave.

7. Discussed selling the 4.2 acres of land the City owns to Mr. Ballegeer again.

8. Lightning hit a big Cottonwood tree on an out lot in Stonebridge. It is too big for the City to take down. The cost to take the tree down and leave it on City property is $1,800.

9. Rick is working on budgets for next year with help from Chris.

10.The water department will be flushing hydrants October 9-20, 2017. We still have a handful of new water meters to be installed.

11. All lift stations have been cleaned and Serviced.

12. Discussed engineering quotes to improve the sludge plant to get rid of sludge by treating it. Quotes were received from McClure Engineering, $6,100 and ShiveHattery, $11,200.

13. The street department has finished paving for the year. They are now rocking the shoulders of all roads that need it. They will be sealing cracked streets and trimming trees around town getting ready for winter.

14. Joe had the guys clean up the memorial garden. One of the employees hit a pole with the White dump truck, damaging the door and cab. Someone broke the slide at Ty Massey Park. The replacement cost is $1600 and it has been turned in to our insurance Company.

15. All part-time employees will be laid off as of October 10, 2017.
