Jon Zahm, the Republican candidate for Henry County clerk/recorder, has threatened to file an ethics charge against County Clerk Barbara M. Link for allegedly disclosing information.

Zahm made the accusation in a Dec. 8 Facebook post in which he alleges Link or an associate told a county board member that he had requested a copy of that member’s precinct committee petition. As a result, Zahm wrote, that board member threatened him in a phone call.

“Perhaps if this weak committeeman had 10 valid signatures, he could run again,” Zahm wrote. “But he only has eight.”

According to the Henry County website, the clerk/recorder oversees vital records, election results, marriage and civil union licenses, raffled licenses and property tax data. The U.S. Census Bureau estimated the county’s 2016 population at just under 50,000 citizens.
