City of Cordova Board of Trustees met September 14.
Here is the minutes as provided by the board:
Meeting called to order at 6:30 pm.
Roll Call: Present: Julie Hager, Harvey Sothmann, Shannon Craigmiles, Della Rogers
Scott, Pat Fidlar. Absent: Alvin Barber was working on a main break. Also present: Steve
Haring (MSA), Shelley Strombach, Bob VanHooreweghe, Darci Toppert (BHBT), Toni
Gasper (BHBT), Linda Meinheit, Tom Ray, Sarah Ford (Review), Deputy B. Mendoza
(RICS), John Myers.
MSA: MSA presented an updated project report to let the board know they are close to
completion on the Nano2 system. They anticipate it will be able to be switched on within
the month. MSA has not received any bids for the Shamrock Villa’s storm grate work.
The Survey performed at 3rd Ave & 9th Street N & 10th Street North is complete. The
Village has copies of the paperwork.
MidAmerica: MidAmerica presented the information for their LED programs. They
have two options. Option 1: The Standard Conversion- the customer agrees to allow
MEC (at no cost to the Customer) to begin converting existing MEC-owned HPS and
other non-LED street lights with a comparable LED street light fixture by project areas as
planned by MEC and at MEC’s discretion and pace. Option 2: Accelerated ConversionThe
Customer request that HPS and other non-LED street lights (in the locations
designated in writing by the Customer) be converted to LED fixtures prior to such light’s
planned conversion by MEC and significant maintenance on the light is required (e.g., on
a faster pace and timeline than under Option 1). There will be a charge of $100.00/light
for each conversion that occurs under Option 2. An MEC representative will contact the
Customer (through primary point of contact for the Customer identified below) to
document the locations desired by the Customer for early conversion under Option 2 and
to begin working on the process to identify and change the streetlights. The LED lights
are predicted to last 10 years after installation. The LED lights are simply a head
replacement on the existing fixtures. MidAmerica projected an estimated $2000.00 yearly
savings for Cordova’s current number of lights. The lights have better visibility and the
lights are more directional. It is a whiter light. Jim signed the paperwork to start the
Village on Option 1 with the knowledge the Village could later switch to Option 2.
Black Hawk Bank & Trust: Black Hawk Bank & Trust offered a packet full of
information for the Board outlining what they can offer the Village. They have a full
range of options for businesses. The Board will go through the information and discuss.
Water/Sewer: The Nano2 system’s generator will need money put into it this coming
week. The Village will have to send out a part to be welded as it is a stainless steel item.
The snowbird policy will be retracted and the Village will re-write a policy for water and
sewer usage.
Park & Rec: The mowing is slowing down now with the weather change. The Village
will need to rent a skid loader with attachment to go in and start clearing brush around
town. The skid loader is $350/day or $1100 for the week.
S&A: Della will need money approved for purchasing road signs as well as some road
repair where the main break occurred. The Slurry Sealcoating project has had 2
contractors respond.
Finance: Shannon gave everyone a copy of the Budget worksheet that shows the current
expenses versus budget for the months ending in July.
Waste Management: Fall Cleanup will be October 6th, 7th, & 8th at the Civic Center
building. The 7th the Village will be hosting E-waste at the Village Hall maintenance
building from 9am-12pm. The Board will also need to decide on a price for extra garbage
cans for citizens who wish to have one.
Donation: The Cordova Fire Protection District is requesting a donation for their
Pancake Breakfast October 1st. There will be food, games, crafts, and fun for the whole
family from 7am-1pm. The Cordova Boosters have also requested a donation for their
Halloween Party. The planning for the Halloween Party will determine where the party
and times are.
Public Comments: Jim apologized for the road messes we have had recently. Jim also
let everyone know he has had a meeting with McClure engineering about the survey they
are conducting for the property located behind the Village Maintenance buildings and the
Fire Department. They are having issues with two pieces of property by the railroad, they
expect to be completed by the end of October.
