Augustana College students who have completed a program with Joining in Education Through Service (JETS) are invited to join a medical service trip to Nicaragua June 10-17.
The JETS program launched in 2008 to give students interested in health care careers a chance to administer care in a third-world country, according to a press release. So far, 300 students have participated in the program’s first decade.
All JETS alumni are eligible for this special trip, which costs $1,900 per person for a single-occupancy room, or $1,700 for a double. Some other expenses are not covered in the room price: food, souvenirs, a visa and plane flight are the participant’s responsibility.

Participants need to pay $500 by Jan. 7 to reserve a spot.
"This is a wonderful opportunity for JETS alumni to reconnect and return to the place of one of their most memorable and rewarding experiences," Kelly Read Noack, director of alumni relations at Augustana, was quoted in the release.
Two faculty sponsors, Dara Wegman-Geedey and Darrin Good, will oversee the trip. A variety of medical specialists are encouraged to go, from physicians and nurses to dentists, optometrists and pharmacists, among others.
