QUAD CITIES CHAMBER: WIU Kinesiology Department Hosts Coaching Clinic to be held June 2

Quad Cities Chamber recently issued the following announcement.

The Western Illinois University Kinesiology Department will host a Leatherneck Coaching Seminar from 8:45 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, June 2 in Brophy Hall.

The registration deadline for the coaching clinic is Friday, May 25. It will include lunch and several break-out sessions, as well as a keynote address presented by Bruce Douglas, president of Shooting for Christ Ministry, a basketball camp and community outreach program that promotes unity in the community by ministering to families and youth. He led his University of Illinois teams to four NCAA tournament appearances.

Coaching professionals will speak to attendees on such topics as the psychology of coaching, building a successful team culture, taking over a new program, building relationships with stakeholders, motivating the athlete of today, using technology as a coaching tool, developing a coaching philosophy, the first head coaching position and making parents allies.

Speakers include: Dave Darnell, head coach of the Eureka College 1994 national basketball championship team; Jared Elliot, WIU head football coach; Tim Lafferty, 2017 Illinois High School Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame inductee; Earlynn Lauer, assistant professor of sport psychology/wellness, director of the Leathernecks Excel as Athletes and People (LEAP) program at WIU and former Division I tennis athlete; Zach Keene, Macomb High School women's basketball head coach; Teri Paul, West Prairie High School women's volleyball head coach; and Chip Wilde, who has 20 years of collegiate head basketball coaching experience.

Regional offices will recognize this seminar as professional development for educators.
