I began my day at the Galesburg Area Vocational Center, where students engaged with representatives from local trades groups, farm implement dealers, auto body repair businesses, and manufacturers. The event provided hands-on opportunities for students to interact with potential employers and ask questions about career paths. This year saw participation from several new schools.
Later, I attended the Maple City Area Partnership (MCAP) meeting at Meks On Main. Local business and community leaders gathered to hear Alan and Victor from Clear Profits discuss their marketing strategies and successes, including a campaign centered around “Judy’s” pancakes.
In the evening, I was present at the Sandburg Foundation 2025 Scholarship Reception. The event recognized students who received scholarships as well as donors who contributed to the foundation. Students were able to meet their sponsors during the reception.
On Sunday morning, I joined the Colona Fire Department Pancake Breakfast. During this event, I met Chief Wyffel and outgoing Chief Swan. Both have served the community alongside other department members. The breakfast included pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon, biscuits, and gravy.
Swanson is a Republican who was elected to represent Illinois's 71st House District in 2023, succeeding Donald L. Moffitt.
