Village of Orion Finance Committee met March 28.

Here is the minutes as provided by the committee:

A meeting of the Finance Committee was held March 28, 2018 at 4:00 p.m. at Village

Hall, 1202 4th Street, Orion, Illinois. Members present: Peterson. Absent: Drucker and

Newman. Also present was President Cooper.

Credit card receipts were reviewed and compared to the statement. All was found to be

in order. Employee leave hours were also examined.

The proposed FY 2019 budget requests were reviewed and discussed. Sewer Supt. Chris

Lundburg told the board he and Trustee Hancock were aiming to keep a $100,000

balance in each of the depreciation and capital improvement funds for emergency

purposes. He also noted the sewer plant is still processing leachate and will do so as long

as it doesn’t pose a detrimental effect to the effluent. Processing of leachate raises

revenue for the sewer department.

Due to prior correspondence with Trustee Newman, part time labor costs were increased

in the park budget. There was still a question about whether one or two part time

employees would be hired to perform park and street work. An overlay of 13th Street

between 7th and 10th Avenues was added to the budget. The project will only proceed if

time allows. A new backhoe was left in the budget with the stipulation it be used to its

fullest potential in all departments, including for main breaks.

In prior correspondence with Trustee Newman he noted the village’s finances were in

good condition, there is often a carryover, and the village board no longer needs to

concern itself about sheriff’s dispatching fees.

There being no further business to come before the committee, the meeting was

adjourned.
