City of New Boston Council met Oct. 10.

Here is the minutes provided by the council:

The City of New Boston met in regular session October 10, 2018. Mayor DeFrieze opened the meeting at 7:00 pm. Alderman present were Schreurs, Ramer, and Fourdyce. Alderman absent were Long, Stineman, and Marston. Police Chief Mike, Campground Host Natalie, Scott Giles, and Jackie Brown attended the meeting as well. Minutes were taken by Lacey Schreurs.

No one was present for Public Forum.

Fourdyce made the motion to approve the minutes, seconded by Schreurs, all aye votes, motion carried.

Mayor DeFrieze swore in Scott Giles as Ward I Alderman.

Fourdyce made the motion to pay the bills, seconded by Ramer, all aye votes, motion carried.

Fourdyce made the motion to approve the Treasurer’s Report, seconded by Schreurs, all aye votes, motion carried.

Ramer reported that the Prentiss Addition road that the City maintains is in need of repair. Mike is going to see about having it graded and then they will lay gravel over the entire road.

Mike told the Council that they are fixing broken water meters.

Mike explained to the Council the need of hiring another part time police officer. Mike told the Council that Jackie Brown was interested in filling the position. Aledo is also in need of part time police officers, so he would work for both places. Aledo is willing to pay for the classes needed as long as the City pays for the hotel expenses.

Fourdyce made the motion to send Jackie Brown to the police training class, seconded by Schreurs. Roll call votes as follows: Giles-aye, Schreurs-aye, Ramer-abstain, and Fourdyce-aye. Motion carried.

Ramer explained why he thought the City should purchase 2 Purple Martin houses for down at the Riverfront.

Ramer made the motion to purchase 2 Purple Martin houses, seconded by Fourdyce. Roll call votes as follows: Giles-aye, Schreurs-aye, Ramer-aye, and Fourdyce-aye. Motion carried.

Natalie asked if the City would be interested in helping with the Christmas food baskets again this year. The Council agreed to table it until next meeting when she would have a better idea on how much money she would need.

Ramer asked about the markers for veterans at the cemetery. Also the starting of the Veteran’s Memorial. Mayor said that since the campground was finished now they could begin working on the Veteran’s Memorial.

Mayor expressed the need to get a resolution started for Motor Fuel Tax to repair roads.

Natalie asked about allowing hunters to stay in the Campground after the October 31 closing date.

Fourdyce made the motion to allow hunters to stay at the Campground through December 2 at the rate of $45 per week, with only power being supplied (no water or sewer), and only in the new addition, seconded by Ramer. Roll call votes as follows: Giles-aye, Schreurs-aye, Ramer-aye, and Fourdyce-aye. Motion carried.

Ramer made the motion to accept the resigning of Brad Long from Ward I Alderman, seconded by Schreurs. Roll call votes as follows: Giles-aye, Schreurs-aye, Ramer-aye, and Fourdyce-aye. Motion carried.

Ramer made the motion to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Schreurs, all aye votes, motion carried.
