Former state university employee Truitt paid in $187K to pension fund, could collect $6.2M in retirement

Former state university employee Bettie Truitt, who retired in March 2018, saved $187,422 toward a pension over 30 years working for state universities, State Universities Retirement System of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Truitt would collect as much as $6.2 million, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes Rock Island Today.

The projection assumes Truitt received $130,310 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 2 years of retirement, Truitt will have already received $264,529 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the state pension fund.
