Republican National Committee (RNC) Regional Communications Director Mandi Merritt has a simple explanation for Democrats' dogged pursuit of an impeachment of President Donald Trump.

“Democrats know they can’t beat President Trump at the ballot box, so they’ve launched a politically motivated stunt to try and overturn the results of the 2016 election and the will of millions of voters,” Merritt told Rock Island Today.

Many northwest Illinois voters agree, and earlier this month about 100 of them turned up outside the Rock Island district office of U.S. Rep. Cheri Bustos (R-Moline) to demand that she “Stop the Madness” by calling an end to what they consider the baseless proceedings.

“These events give voters a chance to show their representatives how fed up they are with the Democrats' latest investigation obsession, and make it known that the people are watching and demanding that Democrats stop the madness and get back to work on the real issues,” Merritt said.

Joining the protesters was Illinois state Sen. John Cabello (R-Rockford).

“We’re here today to stop the madness," Cabello was quoted as saying in a press release. "Democrats like Cheri Bustos need to get back to work for the American people, instead of focusing on yet another wasted impeachment investigation. We have a congresswoman who likes to do nothing. We should start calling her Nancy Pelosi Jr. Cheri Bustos should stand up for the people of her district that elected President Trump.”

The Rock Island demonstration was part a growing national effort to hold Democrats accountable for what many deem as wholly politically motivated actions. The RNC has launched a new StopTheMadness.gop website that serves as a one-stop informational resource in support of the president – and the truth.

“The Stop the Madness campaign is a way to cause chaos in districts [represented by] Democrats like Cheri Bustos who promised voters one thing when she went to Washington, but have turned around and done the exact opposite,” Merritt said. “This bogus impeachment witch hunt, combined with the socialist policies espoused by the left, will sink Democrats like Bustos’ chances at the ballot box in 2020.”
