WKEI AM 1450: WIU Golfer Honored as All America Scholar

WKEI AM 1450 recently issues the following announcement.

 Western Illinois junior golfer Cameron Karney earned Division I Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar recognition, the Golf Coaches Association of America announced Wednesday (June 17).

Karney is a finance major with a 3.74 cumulative grade point average. In competition, the Crystal Lake, Ill, native played in 21 rounds and averaged a career-low 75.19 per round.

He fired two rounds under par and battled for a tie for fourth place at the Zach Johnson Invitational (75-75-68-218). Karney tied for ninth place at the Alabama State Spring Kickoff (73-72-73-218) and put together his third ‘Top-10’ finish of the year at the Benbow Invitational (75-77-152).

To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior academically in Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their Associate’s Degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. In addition, they must have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I, 78.0 in Division II, 78.0 in NAIA and 79.0 in Division III, 77.0 in NJCAA, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. For 2019-20 only, they must participate in 40% of the team’s competitive rounds.
