With the onset of COVID-19, Smith Filters made 225,000 masks for hospitals and first responders.
“While building these masks they were able to stay open and employ 100 employees during this time," a news release published by the Quad Cities Chamber said.
The Moline company was founded by Orbin Smith and his son, Glenn, in 1939. It started with four employees as a manufacturer of metal mesh filters for schools and businesses. In 1965, Roger Smith, the son of Glenn, became head of the company, building a new plant and purchasing a disposable filter company.
Co-presidents Jim and Sherilyn Smith Solis now lead the company.
“Our goal is to continue building the best quality filter product at the most competitive price,” a Smith Filters spokesperson said. "We plan on continuing the company for many years to come and will do that with the same business ethics and integrity we have always had. It’s just our way of doing business."
