City of Colona Public Safety Committee Met November 16

City of Colona Public Safety Committee met Nov. 16.

Here is the minutes provided by the committee:

Roll Call

Present: Alderman Shady-Dahl, Alderman Stablein, Chief Swemline, Laura LaMantia.

Absent: Alderman Mike King

Reports/Communications

September and October stats were distributed.

Golf Cart Registrations to date: 26 total= $1,300.00

Old Business

Testing was held for police officer, 30 applications were received and 6 applicants showed up to testing. There will be interviews held November 18, and 19th.

6 Portable radios were purchased from the drug fund, there are 2 new radios on each shift and Officers have reported that they work great.

Interviews were held and background checks are taking place for the CSO position and someone should be hired by the end of November.

The DEA drug take back was held and 50 pounds of drugs were collected.

Chief Swemline gave an update on Officer Duran who is still in the academy. He advised the academy was suspended for two weeks for covid issues. Officer Duran continued online training during the shutdown and is scheduled to resume the academy and graduate in December.

Chief advised the outside door and window previously discussed still have not been replaced and this has been a need for several years now. The committee discussed getting bids for the work to get done as soon as possible.

Chief gave an update on the flooring project and advised it is currently being worked on.

New Business

Alderman Stablein made a motion to adjourn, Alderman Shady-Dahl seconded and meeting was adjourned at 4:02 p.m.
