City of Kewanee City Council met Oct. 12.
Here are the minutes provided by the council:
The Council Meeting was called to order at 7:00 PM. 5 members of the City Council were present in Chambers.
The Consent Agenda included the following items:
Approval of Minutes of the September 27th Meeting.
Payroll for the pay period ending September 25th 2021, in the amount of $206,539.72
Reports from Police, Community Development
Trick or Treat Night on October 31st 5-7
Request from Central School
Motion made by Councilmember Komnick to approve consent agenda. A Seconded was made by Councilmember Faber. No Discussion . Motion Passed 5-0
Bills were presented in the amount of $116,364.86.
Councilmember Baker moved to approve payment of the bills. Councilmember Colomer seconded the motion. Discussion: Faber inquired about a Cummins bill, and it was for one vehicle. Newton stepped up to explain it was for 3 vehicles. The motion was approved 5-0.
Public Comments: New Business:
Presentation from Dwight Ford, Project Now.
Consideration of an Ordinance #4077 amending the Administrative Code .. Councilmember Colomer moved to approve. Councilmember Faber seconded. Discussion: Bradley stated how fitting this change is with the presentation that we just had with Dwight Ford. Colomer agreed that we are asking them to help our city out in times of need…but we could not before hire them. This is a much-needed change. Motion passed 5 ayes 0 nays.
Consideration of a Resolution #5299 awarding a sidewalk stabilization project to Ratliff Brothers… Councilmember Colomer made the motion, Councilmember Komnick seconded. Discussion: Mayor Moore stated that he was happy that this project could stay with a local vendor. Motion passed 5 ayes 0 nays.
Consideration of a Resolution #5291 authorizing the City Manager to execute an agreement with Zen City for Professional Services…Councilmember Colomer made a motion to Table Councilmember Baker seconded. Discussion: All were in agreement that tabling is the best option to let everyone to have a chance to review the material. Motion passed 5 ayes 0 nays.
Consideration of a Resolution #5300 awarding construction of Aeration tanks for each water treatment plant to Artesian of Pioneer. Councilmember Colomer, Councilmember Baker seconded. Discussion: Mayor Moore explained that the higher bid. Bradley explained about the design of both tanks and took samples to be tested. Due to the length of the application and their process this is the staffs best case guess. Life expectancy could be extended. Motion passed 5 ayes 0 nays.
Mayor’s Communications:
Mayor Moore: Receiving complaints about Red Adams Road. What can we do for the businesses on that road and help with the drainage and water? Congrats to both local High School teams in their Football season. My wife and I attended a concert on Cambridge and the band is wanting to expand their concerts to Kewanee. Want to thank all the dept heads for the City and the excellent job they are doing.
Council Communications:
Councilmember Colomer: Missed City Wide Cleanup but seemed to be very well used again this year.
Councilmember Baker: Appreciated the presentation by Dwight Ford and he understands the struggles that there are out there.
Councilmember Faber: Tree that feel in a back yard..asking PW to take a look and see if we need to get involved.
Councilmember Komnick: Participated in RAP with Kiwanis and thank you Keith to all the work that he does. ROSC council meeting is exciting to hear. Happy Anniversary to my wife!!
Announcements: Cemetery clean up days
Councilmember Colomer moved to adjourn the meeting. Councilmember Faber seconded the motion. Motion passed 5-0 The meeting adjourned at 7:46 PM
