Illinois State Sen. Neil Anderson recently announced his appointment to a Senate leadership position.

"I want to thank Leader Curran for this appointment and his faith in me to help lead the Senate Republicans during this upcoming General Assembly," Anderson wrote in a Jan. 13 Facebook post.

In his Facebook post, Sen. Neil Anderson shared a link to his official website, where he expanded his statement to include comment from Senate Leader John Curran. “Senator Anderson’s commitment to his values and dedication to our state make him an incredible value to our caucus and the people of Illinois,” said Leader Curran. “He has proven his ability to lead by example and he will move our caucus forward in this new role.”

According to a press release on Anderson's website, he was sworn in to represent the new 47th Senate District on Jan. 11.

“I am proud of the work I’ve been able to get done in the 36th District, but there is still more work to be done and Illinoisans deserve more and better,” Anderson said, according to the press release. “As legislators, we must do our due diligence to represent our districts at our full potential and weed out bad policy and fight for the good.”

“Since I have been in the General Assembly, I have continuously worked to protect our Second Amendment Rights,” Anderson added. “I’ve made it clear I believe the FOID Card is unconstitutional which is why I have filed legislation every year to repeal the FOID Act. Law-abiding gun owners have been under attack in this state for far too long and I will continue to fight for our constitutional rights.”

The Chicago Sun-Times reported that Anderson was easily elected to the 47th District in an uncontested race.

The 47th District includes all or parts of Adams, Fulton, Hancock, Henderson, Henry, Knox, Mason, McDonough, Menard, Mercer, Peoria, Rock Island, Schuyler, Stark, Tazwell and Warren Counties. Anderson's new district office is in Aledo, in the Button Building, and city officials are happy to have him there, according to WRMJ.com.
