Illinois deer hunting season has commenced, with archery season opening on October 1 and continuing until January 19 in counties east of Route 47. The same timeline applies to counties west of Route 47, although there will be interruptions for firearm seasons starting mid-November.
The general firearm deer season is scheduled for November 22 to 24 and December 5 to 8 for those possessing the necessary tags and licenses. Additionally, a muzzleloader-only season is set from December 13 to 15. Lottery drawings for firearm season tags have concluded, and over-the-counter sales will begin on October 15, available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Hunters are advised to follow certain guidelines to ensure safety and compliance during the deer hunting season:
- Obtain a valid Illinois Hunting, Sportsmen, Youth or Apprentice License along with a deer permit.
- Adhere to hunting hours: one-half hour before sunrise to one-half hour after sunset.
- Wear pink or orange outer garments in the field for increased visibility.
- Exercise caution while driving in areas marked with deer crossing signs as hunting activities can increase deer movement.
