FOIA Request to City Of Rock Island Regarding Building Permits on October 30, 2024.
In our ongoing commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Rock Island Today have submitted a request for records under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act. The request was sent to the City of Rock Island on October 30, 2024.
The requested records include a list of all new residential and commercial building permits issued from January 1, 2023, up until the present date. We have asked for this information to be provided in several specific fields: type of permit, date issued, fee paid, requester, address, and contractor name.
In addition to this, we have also requested a list of all active residential and commercial building permits along with their current status. The same fields of information are sought for these active permits.
As part of our mission as a media organization, we strive to hold public institutions accountable and provide transparency to the public. Access to public records such as these is essential in fulfilling these professional responsibilities.
We believe that our role in disseminating information qualifies us for a fee waiver as a media professional under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act. We await the response from the City of Rock Island regarding our request.
