Representative Dan Swanson has been appointed as the chairperson of the Illinois House Veterans Affairs Committee. "Supporting our veterans is a non-partisan issue. It is an honor to lead this committee in the new General Assembly," said Swanson. He expressed gratitude to Speaker Welch and other members of the committee for prioritizing services and public policy for veterans.

Swanson has been involved with the Veterans Affairs Committee since 2017 and served as the Republican Spokesperson from 2021. He looks forward to addressing important issues in the upcoming spring session.

The General Assembly will reconvene on January 28, with a scheduled adjournment date of May 31. The state faces a budget deficit exceeding $3 billion, and Swanson emphasized balancing the budget without raising taxes while protecting key priorities. He stated, "Part of the problem over the past several years has been that the Republican caucus has not been included in any budget discussions." Ethics reform is also on the agenda.

Swanson encourages Illinois citizens to participate in legislative processes by staying informed through his website or following live proceedings online. Citizens can also file witness slips regarding bills under consideration.

In recognition of his contributions, Swanson was named a Friend of Agriculture by the Illinois Fertilizer and Chemical Association. "As a sixth-generation member of the agriculture community it is an honor to be recognized by agriculture industry leaders," he said.

Additionally, a free showing of 'Glory' will take place at Galesburg's Orpheum Theater on February 15 at 7 p.m., supported by a grant from United Way of Knox County. The film highlights heroes from Galesburg who fought during the Civil War.
