Becker’s Healthcare has recognized Hammond-Henry Hospital in Geneseo as one of the top hospitals in the United States for nurse communication. The recognition is based on data from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ (CMS) Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey.
The HCAHPS survey evaluates patient experiences at hospitals, including how well nurses explain things, listen to patients, and show courtesy and respect. Hospitals receive a star rating based on responses to these questions. The most recent data was collected between October 2023 and September 2024 and released on August 6, 2025.
Seventeen hospitals in Illinois received the five-star rating for nurse communication, including Hammond-Henry Hospital. Other Illinois hospitals honored include Alton Memorial Hospital, Crawford Memorial Hospital in Robinson, Deaconess Illinois Crossroads in Mount Vernon, Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville, Marion VA Medical Center, Memorial Hospital in Carthage, Midwestern Region Medical Center in Zion, Midwest Medical Center in Galena, Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers, Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital in DeKalb, OSF Holy Family Medical Center in Monmouth, OSF St. Paul Medical Center in Mendota, St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield, St. Joseph’s Hospital in Highland and Breese, and Taylorville Memorial Hospital.
According to Becker’s Healthcare: "CMS shares 10 HCAHPS star ratings based on publicly reported HCAHPS measures. For nurse communication, data from HCAHPS survey questions are used. These questions summarize how well patients feel that their nurses explained things clearly, listened carefully to them, and treated them with courtesy and respect."
