Demetrius Williams III, a senior at United Township High School in East Moline, participated as a Page for a Day in the Illinois House of Representatives on Wednesday. He was invited by State Representative Dan Swanson (R-Alpha).

“It was great to have Demetrius join us in the House chamber today,” Swanson said. “He got a first-hand look at the House of Representatives in action on a very busy legislative day!”

Williams attended the event with his mother, Rebecca Hinman, and his grandmother, Kathleen Ahrens. He is active in school and community organizations, serving as a drill instructor for the UTHS Marching Panthers band and playing the baritone. He is also involved with the International Thespian Society, Tri-M Music Honor Society, brass ensemble, and hand bell chorus at St. John’s Lutheran Church, where he volunteers at the food pantry. Williams plans to join ROTC in college and pursue cyberwarfare engineering in the military.

Swanson has represented Illinois' 71st House District since being elected in 2023, succeeding Donald L. Moffitt.
