Rock Island Mayor Dennis Pauley announced a number of upcoming local events Feb. 8 during his regular Update Rock Island segment of the City Council meeting.
Tomorrow, Feb. 11, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority will host a discussion about mental health and family dynamics for African-American families. Doors open at 5:45 p.m.
Parents looking for a way to enjoy Valentine's Day alone will get some relief from the Rock Island Fitness and Activity Center. The RIFAC will provide pizza, games, and other activities for kids between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 13.
The mayor also announced the 2016 Outdoor Show, which will run from Feb 18 through Feb 21 at the Quad City Expo Center. The event offers demonstrations, speakers, and other activities for hunters, fishermen, and outdoor enthusiasts.
Pauley also reminded residents that garbage and recycling pickup on President's Day — Monday Feb 15 — will proceed as usual. Pauley said city offices will operate on normal hours that day as well.
