The Rock Island Planning Commission approved a rezoning request from Unity Point Health Dec. 2 that will allow a new parking lot at 925-927 27th Ave.
The parking lot will serve an adjacent office building.
Deanna Brumbaugh, a 15-year resident of Rock Island, expressed her concerns about the project's impact on stormwater runoff and street damage from heavy construction equipment. Both concerns were addressed by project engineers and commissioners, who assured Brumbaugh that stormwater runoff was adequately accounted for and that the city would pay for any street damage caused and left unaddressed by the lot's builders.
The commission voted 8-0 in favor of the request that the property developers work to substitute the invasive burning bush plants included in their site plan with a less offensive species.
