Rock Island has received the first draft of its 2016-17 school budget.
The Rock Island-Milan School District No. 41 received the first draft of the district's 2016-17 budget on Feb. 9 at Rock Island High School.
The board also approved the purchase of 20 Apple laptops for $19,980 and the appointment of Washington Jr. High School math teacher Amanda Harms, at an annual salary of $65,531.
Superintendent Michael Oberhaus provided an update on the school's funding efforts, noting that since 2008, the district has moved from within $200 to $2,000 of the state average. District officials are expected respond to the issue by reviewing seven proposals for balancing the district's long-term funding plans.
Jeremy Smock, student board member, was absent from the meeting.
