This past weekend, a ceremony was held at the Cantigny 1st Division Memorial and Museum in Wheaton to honor Colonel Robert McCormick. The event recognized his contributions during World War I, particularly at the battle of Cantigny, France, as well as his role as founder and publisher of the Chicago Tribune and the establishment of Cantigny Park.

A plaque was unveiled featuring words from House Resolution 263, which was adopted on April 23, 2025. This unveiling coincided with the recognition of the Army's 250th Birthday and celebrated Colonel McCormick's career by the Doughboy statue at Cantigny. An Illinois flag that had been flown over the Capitol was presented to Matt Lafond, Executive Director of Cantigny.

Notable attendees included Medal of Honor recipient First Sergeant Allen Lynch, Major General James Mukoyama, former 1st Division Commander, and former Secretary of State Jesse White.

Following the plaque unveiling, a luncheon and award ceremony took place in the Education Center. Two businesses were acknowledged for their support to guard and reserve members through Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR). Additionally, Secretary White received recognition from the Military Order of World Wars (MOWW), where an unexpected honor was also bestowed upon me with induction into MOWW. MOH Lynch and MG Mukoyama delivered speeches during this gathering.

The event was organized by AUSA (Association United States Army) along with MOWW, ROA (Retired Officer Association), MOAA (Military Officers Association of America), American Legion, VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars), AmVets (American Veterans), and DAV (Disabled American Veterans).
