Rock Island has begun the process of granting landmark status to the Denkmann-Hauberg House.
The Rock Island Preservation Commission will begin the process of evaluating the Denkmann-Hauberg House's merits as a local historical landmark Wednesday, March 16, at Rock Island City Hall.
The Prairie-style house is currently part of the Hauberg Civic Center and was registered on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972. The house was the primary residence of local philanthropist Susanne Denkmann and historian John Hauberg.
The commission will also review the appropriateness of a request from Young House owner Daryl Empen to replace a five-by-five-foot plate glass window at the landmark home. Empen would replace it with a three-by-five sash window.
The meeting is scheduled for 5 p.m.
Rock Island City Hall is located at 1528 Third Ave.
