Summer in the 71st District is bustling with activities, offering residents a variety of events to enjoy. Recently, the Knox County Fair took place, featuring a midway filled with rides suitable for all ages. The highlight of the fair was the tractor and truck pull event. Retired Representative Don Moffitt and his wife Carolyn joined attendees in anticipation of their son Justin's participation. Justin secured third place in his truck class after pulling at 12:40 am.
The Stern Center hosted an ice cream social accompanied by a performance from the Monmouth Community Band on Thursday night. Attendees enjoyed sweet treats while savoring homemade peach pie. Later that evening, visitors attended a presentation at Warren County Museum about General Warren, exploring his role in the Revolutionary War.
Over the weekend, weather conditions postponed the Mercer County 4-H livestock auction by one day. Despite this delay, support from local businesses and families remained strong as they participated in purchasing animals like Josiah Stevenson’s four rabbits.
The Mercer County Fair also featured a demolition derby drawing large crowds to its grandstand. Meanwhile, the tractor and truck pull event had to be rescheduled for Sunday due to scheduling conflicts. The fair boasted an expanded midway compared to previous years.
"Congratulations to the Knox County Fair board for an outstanding fair season," said Daniel Swanson (R-Woodhull), Illinois State Representative for the 71st District.
Swanson expressed appreciation for both county fairs: "Great job Mercer County fair board for an outstanding fair."
