House District 72 candidate Brandi McGuire
In the March 15 Illinois House Republican primary for District 72, Brandi McGuire won the GOP nomination over Jordan Thoms. A total of 8,806 votes were cast in Rock Island County. McGuire claimed a total of 5,164 votes (58.64 percent), while Thoms received 3,642 votes (41.36 percent).
“Very important day,” McGuire posted on Facebook. “Thank you to all of my supporters. I will not let you down Rock Island County.”
In the Presidential Republican primary, Donald Trump emerged ahead of the pack among Rock Island County voters, claiming 36.04 percent of the votes. On the Democratic side, 51.45 percent of Rock Island County voters supported Hillary Clinton, while 46.97 percent voted for Bernie Sanders.
In the Senate Republican race, James Marter lost to Mark Kirk among Rock County voters. On the Democratic side, incumbent Sen. Tammy Duckworth took the lead with 11,119 votes over Andrea Zopp, who received 4,573 votes, and Napoleon Harris, who received 2,129 votes.
