The Rock Island library committee will hold a special policy meeting on April 7.
The Personnel & Policy Committee of the Rock Island Public Library board has scheduled a special afternoon meeting for 3 p.m. on Thursday, April 7, at the main library branch building.
Mike Avgenackis will serve as meeting facilitator; Virgil Mayberry, Karen Phillips, Kevin Koski and Colleen Massey are expected participants.
Immediately following call to order, the committee will open the floor for public comments, followed by policies review and a closed session, prior to adjournment.
The Rock Island Public Library is among the oldest public libraries in the state of Illinois, with a history dating back to 1872.
The committee meeting is slated for the director’s office at the library’s main branch, located at 401 19th St. in Rock Island. The library has two additional branches: the “30/31” branch at 3059 30th St. and the Southwest branch 9010 Ridgewood Road.
The main building on 19th Street was built in 1903. It has been adapted over time and now offers handicap-accessible entry, a large children’s department and children’s computer lab. Additionally, the structure houses a meeting room, a book resale area, display cases and significant local history resources.
Specialized collections available for checkout include baking equipment such as cake pans and cookie cutters.
