A pair of Augustana College students recently presented their Greenbush plan to the Rock Island Planning Commission.
Augustana College students Alyssa Clarida and Christian Montbriand delivered a presentation of their Greenbush neighborhood plan at a Rock Island Planning Commission meeting on Feb. 3 at City Hall.
The students developed the plan as part of a geography and planning project that was intended to have real world consequences. The pair presented the framework of their plan, which includes an inventory of the neighborhood's assets, existing conditions and six goals for the neighborhood moving forward.
The commission discussed the perception of the neighborhood as a high-crime area, transportation and housing vacancies in the area.
The students were expected to hold community meetings to gather input from the neighborhood before returning to the planning commission with a final draft of their plan on March 2, when they were expected to seek the commission's recommendation to the Rock Island City Council.
Commission members Bruce Harding, Norm Moline, Bruce Peterson and Berlinda Tyler-Jamison were not in attendance.
