The East Moline mayor and the City Council met April 4 to approve a resolution authorizing the execution of a contract with J&M Displays, to provide fireworks at the July 4 fireworks display, to be held July 3.
The motion was carried unanimously.
The city council also did the following at the meeting: approved a resolution to engage in discussion with the City of Moline and the Village of Milan towards developing a plan for consolidation of the two existing police and fire dispatch centers into one public safety answering point; and discussed a resolution authorizing the replacement a firefighter due to resignation.
The City of East Moline operates under a mayor-council form of government. The mayor is the chief elected official and the council is the legislative body, comprised of seven members, one from each ward, elected on four-year staggered terms. The aldermen pass ordinances and resolutions that set policies, approve expenditures, determine tax rates and set budgets.
The mayor, with approval of the aldermen, appoints a city administrator to oversee day to day operations, enforce policies and maintain fiscal responsibility.
