Members of the Illinois House and Senate Republican caucuses have filed a lawsuit against the passage of Senate Bill 328, urging Governor Pritzker to veto it. They argue that the bill would favor trial lawyers over economic growth in Illinois. The legislation permits out-of-state businesses to be sued in Illinois courts by out-of-state plaintiffs, even if there is no connection to Illinois. Critics claim this could deter business expansion in the state.

The Republicans contend that the bill was passed unconstitutionally, as it bypassed the requirement for bills to be read three times on separate days before voting. This transparency measure was allegedly overlooked to expedite special interest legislation. The lawsuit is currently pending in Springfield.

In other news, Representative Dan Swanson visited the Quincy Veterans Home last week. He toured new housing and administration offices designed with veterans' needs in mind. Each "neighborhood" accommodates 15 veterans with dining options and community rooms available.

Swanson also announced that six bills he sponsored are now awaiting Governor Pritzker's decision. These bills cover various issues such as health care, fire department vehicles, and online auctions. Over 400 bills passed both legislative houses this spring, with decisions expected by late August.

As Independence Day approaches, Swanson wishes everyone a safe holiday and reminds residents about fireworks and grilling safety tips provided by the State Fire Marshal’s office.

Additional updates include Illinois being listed among top mispronounced states, uncertainty over a delivery tax proposal, potential road issues due to weather conditions, and new laws effective from July 1 involving plastic restrictions and tax changes.
