The Rock Island Beautification Commission met at 5 p.m. yesterday, June 13.

The beautification commission recognizes and promotes the beautification of residential and commercial properties throughout Rock Island.

MEETING SUMMARY

MAY 9, 2016

CITY HALL, HR CONFERENCE ROOM

MEMBERS PRESENT: Sandra Hass, Mary Ann Keuhnel, Sue McDevitt, Roy Plasschaert, Emily Smith, Bob Towler and David VanLandegen

MEMBERS ABSENT: Barbara Craver, Wanda Lambert, Tod Linscott, Betty Moran, Keith Smith, Sheila Solomon and Deborah Vesole

STAFF PRESENT: Kathryn Douglass

OTHERS PRESENT: none

CALL TO ORDER: Chairman Towler called the meeting to order at 5:35 PM. A sign-in sheet was also provided.

COMMUNITY GARDENS: Chairman Towler suggested that the committee include all community gardens in Rock Island when considering the Community Garden Award. The other members agreed.

POLLINATOR AWARD: The topic of a Pollinator Award was discussed. The members voiced concern that it would be difficult to distinguish a garden as a “Pollinator Garden”. Chairman Towler said that he would establish parameters the committee could use to identify these gardens and bring the information to the next meeting.

COMMISSION PROJECTS: Two sources were identified as possible commission projects. They were ARC and Habitat for Humanity.

APRIL 2016 YARD OF THE MONTH: The committee reviewed photos and decided to award 4517 - 13th Avenue the “April 2016 Yard of The Month”.

MAY 2016 YARD OF THE MONTH: Nominations and photos are due by 5:00 PM on Friday, May 27th.

OTHER BUSINESS: The committee agreed to move the meeting time to 5:00 pm starting in June.

NEXT MEETING: Monday, June 13, 2016 at 5:00 PM in the HR conference room (basement) of City Hall.

ADJOURNMENT: Chairman Towler adjourned the meeting at approximately 6:05 PM
