Too much government in Rock Island, claim Republicans
Querying whether Rock Island County (Rico) Schools really need additional administrative staff, the Rock Island County Republicans group recently voiced agreement with a local writer who expressed frustration at perceived excessive numbers of government personnel.
Rico GOP, based in Molina, posted a recent plaint on its Facebook page asking why so many school superintendents were necessary.
“Too many Illinois government layers,” the group said. “Why (do) Rico schools have so many school superintendents?"
The writer revealed that “Scott County has five school superintendents, while we here in Rock Island County seem to think we need 10 superintendents. Rock Island County also has fewer students than Scott County.”
Rico GOP agreed, also claiming that some Rock Island educators earn an average of $171,000, with some topping $300,000 annually. This fall, the group stated, school districts will seek a sales tax increase as well. Comments suggested that schools are “classrooms our children, not high salaries for the superintendents or pensions. We say no to the sales tax. Share if you agree.”
