Western Illinois University and Carl Sandburg College recently extended their existing decade-long commitment to collaborate on economical quality education for Western Illinois students and continue joint offerings, announcing the renewal from Macomb and Galesburg, respectively.
Richard Carter, who directs WIU’s distance learning, international studies and outreach division, praised the reaffirmation for its ability to allow students a “seamless” transfer process between the two institutions, in particular WIU’s Bachelor of Arts in General Studies (BGS).
"The BGS degree at Western provides an individualized bachelor's degree program for students either online, on campus in Macomb, on campus at WIU-Quad Cities or a combination of both online and on campus," Carter said.
Moreover, BGS enables students to generalize rather than specialize.
"We are pleased to renew our agreement with Carl Sandburg College to provide even greater educational opportunities for individuals in this region," WIU President Jack Thomas. "This agreement provides Sandburg students … with a fluid transfer process."
While the dual institutions’ initial pact originated in 2006, WIU's BGS degree program dates back to 1972.
"Renewing this agreement allows Carl Sandburg College to continue to provide an efficient transfer option to one of our closest and largest university partners in Western Illinois University," Sandburg President Lori Sundberg said. "We've always had an excellent relationship with WIU."
