South Moline Township Board of Trustee met July 17.
Here is the minutes provided by the Board:
Present — Tracy Best, Supervisor; Rick Mellinger, Assessor; Andrea Anderson, Trustee; Lisa Griffin, Trustee; Brian Forsberg, Trustee; and Rob Vyncke, Clerk. Absent: Bob Schultz, Road Commissioner; and Mark Lundahl, Trustee.
Meeting Called To Order — Meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m. by Supervisor Best.
Pledge Of Allegiance
Approval Of Minutes — Motion by Griffin, second by Forsberg, that we approve the minutes of June 19, 2017. Motion carried, with all voting in favor.
Officials' Reports —
a. Road Commissioner — According to Best, we will be awarding bids in August for the road resurfacing. There are some culverts that need replacing that are on the border of SMT and the City of Moline. The city will buy the culverts and SMT will pay for the installation.
b. Assessor — We are going through and researching everyone’s job description and duties to try to make everything more efficient. This process is almost completed and we will have more to report soon. We did hire a new full-time employee.
c. Clerk — None
d. Trustees — None
e. Cemetery — None
f. Seniors — We are still researching remodel options for the kitchen area.
g. Youth — None
Supervisor's Report —
a. GA: Pending 2; Active 20; Approved 4; Denied 3; Terminated 1; Sanctioned 1. EA: Denied 2. WR: Approved 1. There is also a YTD total that will now be on all reports.
b. There was a motion by Anderson to accept Karin Martin’s resignation. Second by Forsberg. All ayes. Motion carried.
c. There was a motion by Anderson to appoint Rick Mellinger as the new Assessor. Second by Griffin. All ayes. Motion carried.
d. There was some discussion on whether the board needs to reappoint Shevan Earnest to the Fire Protection Board. Best will contact Shevan to verify that she wants to be on the board.
e. There is currently a waiting list for the Save-a-Lot program for needy seniors who qualify.
This program costs SMT $18,000.00 per year, which is a lot of money. The question is: Do we want to increase it or keep it as is? Some discussion followed, but no decision was reached.
f. Back-to-School Program: After some discussion, all agreed that this is a very good program which provides assistance to needy children. Best will be contacting the school principals soon.
Unfinished Business — St. Giuseppe’s is still not 100% out and Best is contacting them. Some discussion followed on how to advertise to get the building rented out. Best will get the building cleaned up before SMT starts advertising.
