City of Silvis Public Safety and Finance Committee met July 25.

The combined Finance and Public Safety meeting was called to order at 5:31pm and it was noted a quorum was present. There is one agenda item for consideration; purchase of four protective vests for the police department.
Chief VanKlaveren explained that two police vests have reached the expiration date' and need to be replaced (five year term). In addition two new vests are needed for the recent hires. The cost for the vests is $685 each and this is not a budgeted item. The cost for four would be about $2,800 and would be taken from uniform allowance. The Chief noted that he did not plan on vest replacement this budget; next year expects 12 replacements. Clerk Nelson said this may require an appropriation transfer. Committee was in agreement to move forward with the request and the item would be placed under Public Safety on the August 1 COW agenda for consideration.
There were no other agenda items and the meeting was adjourned at 5:36pm.
