Staff Present: Kathy Douglass

Review of Minutes from Previous Meeting: The minutes were approved.

Inventory of Rock Island Public Art: The Committee discussed the repair of the “Wall of Fame” mural located at 1818 4th Avenue and the “Mighty Fine Line” train mural at 17th Street and 3rd Avenue. Additionally they felt that the “Jazzman” mural on the east side of the YWCA building had faded to the point that it needed to be removed. Kathy told the committee that she was preparing a memo for CED Director Chandler Poole about what was needed to repair the “Wall of Fame” mural. Dawn said that she would contact artist Bill Gustafson about getting an estimate for repairs to the train mural. Kathy and Dawn will bring their information to the October Arts Advisory Committee meeting.

Parking Meters Plan: Kathy presented a “Parking Meters Plan” to the Committee which explained the reasons for the project and the tasks required to complete it. The plan was well received by the Committee. A discussion followed about who would steward the movable meters and possible locations for the six permanent meters. Dawn said that she would get more details from Metro Arts about the paint they are donating for the project.

No Pianos, Instead a Douglas Park Mural: It was decided by Director Poole that the “Play Me” pianos project was not feasible for Rock Island at this time. The Committee agreed.

Other Business: none

Next Meeting Date: October 11th, 2017 at 4:00 pm at City Hall, lower level conference room.
