The AlWood Board of Education met in regular session on Monday, October 16, 2017, in the Middle/High School Conference Room, Woodhull. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by President Brown with the following in attendance: Barton (o) 7:03 p.m., Brown, Francis, Hand, and Link; Superintendent Shannon Bumann, Elementary Principal Reggie Larson and M/HS Principal David Mills. Althaus and Kenney were absent.
Also in attendance were visitors, Elizabeth Junk, Press Sherry Taylor, and Susan Winters.
Hand moved, Francis seconded to approve the Consent Agenda (minutes, bills, treasurer's report and Elementary & HS Activity) as presented. Passed 4 - 0 roll call vote. Voting aye were Brown, Francis, Hand, and Link. Nay - none. Althaus, Barton, and Kenney were absent.
Middle/High School teacher, Susan Winters invited board members to the Fall Play on November 3rd and 4th. Winters also noted the IESA State Speech contest will be held at AlWood On November 3rd.
Mr. Mills presented the Middle/High School Principal's Report.
Elizabeth Junk, high school student, reported on the different class projects the Web Design class has been working on. See handout.
Mr. Mills reported on a number of homecoming activities. Mr. Mills and Mr. Bumann both thanked everyone for all of their hard work.
Mr. Mills reported on the October 6th teacher in-service that was shared with Cambridge teachers.
Mr. Mills congratulated the golf team for placing 5th at the state tournament. The Red Cross Blood Drive and middle school awards assembly were held on October 13th.
Mr. Larson presented the Elementary Principal's Report. See attached.
Mr. Larson thanked the Oxford and Clover fire departments for volunteering their time on Thursday, October 12th - Fire Prevention Day. Larson also thanked the AlWood Lions Club for their donation of dictionaries for 3rd graders.
Mr. Bumann presented the Superintendent's Report.
Mr. Bumann reported the Invenergy Project (windmills) was moving along nicely. John Barton and Dan Swanson toured the project and would like to see students participate in a field trip to see the progress of the windmills being installed.
Mr. Bumann is currently working with Phillips & Associates, school architects, on the 10 year Life Safety Plan. Preliminary results will be presented in November and approved in December.
Mr. Bumann noted that the district received a clean audit and commended Kim Goodrich for the great work
Barton moved, Francis seconded to approve the 2016 - 2017 School District Audit, budget transfers, and adjusting journal entries. Passed 5 - 0 roll call vote. Voting aye were Barton, Brown, Francis, Hand, and Link. Nay - none. Althaus and Kenney were absent.
Barton moved, Brown seconded to accept the resignation of Middle School Cheerleading Coach, Carolyn Jameson, effective immediately. Passed 5 - 0 roll call vote. Voting aye were Barton, Brown, Francis, Hand, and Link. Nay - none. Althaus and Kenney were absent.
Link moved, Hand seconded to approve the hiring of Tonya Henry, as the Middle School Cheerleading Coach, salary as per the AlWood 2017 - 2018 extra-duty schedule. Passed 5 - 0 roll call vote. Voting aye were Barton, Brown, Francis, Hand, and Link. Nay - none. Althaus and Kenney were absent.
Link moved, Francis seconded to adjourn at 7:27 p.m. Passed 5-0 vote. Nay - none.
