Western Illinois international students earn scholarships

Students in the arts, business and sciences were among those honored recently as winners of scholarships from the Western Illinois University Center for International Studies Scholarship Committee.

The university announced through a news release the 10 international students who were awarded the scholarships.

Jinkyung Kim of South Korea, a piano performance graduate student, earned the $1,000 Dr. In-Kon Kim Scholarship.


Maria Bessmertnaya of Russia, a senior accounting major, received the $500 Macomb Branch AAUW International Student Scholarship.

Aiman Bin Ahmad Raji of Malaysia, an economics graduate student, was awarded the $400 Bessie Meyers Scholarship.

Arup Barua of Bangladesh, who is a physics graduate student, is the recipient of the $325 Francis and Peggy Davern International Scholarship.

Adetola Omotoso of Nigeria, a computer science graduate student, earned the $200 Redeemed Students Fellowship Scholarship.

Five students each received the $500 WEOG Awards for International Students: Olufunke Fadahunsi of Nigeria, public-health graduate student; Bala Bharathi Mannava of India, chemistry graduate student; Sujita Adhikari of Nepal, computer-science graduate student; Shweta Pradhan of Nepal, kinesiology graduate student; and Susan Gabriela Riveros Figueredo of Paraguay, freshman finance major.
