City of Geneseo City Council met February 20. 

Here is the minutes as provided by the council:

Pledge of Allegiance


Roll Call

The City Council of the City of Geneseo met in a City Council meeting on Tuesday February 20, 2018 at the Council Chambers, 115 South Oakwood Avenue. Mayor Kathy Carroll-Duda called the meeting to order at 6:00pm. Aldermen Kent Anderson, Bob Wachtel, Paula Simosky, James Roodhouse, Jason Robinson, Brenda Johnson and Martin Rothschild were present. Aldermen Sue Garlick was absent. Others in attendance included, Deputy City Clerk Brandon Maeglin, City Attorney Margaret Kostopulos, Director of Electrical Operations Lewis Opsal, Lacey Billiet, Deb and Mike Taylor, Brian Stroud,

Kennett Holt and Willy Minnart.

There was a quorum.

Public Comment

Lacy Billiet – “Make sure to consider the other side, lots of bias.”

Unknown person – “Council felt guilty, you know something was wrong.”

Cory Sellers – “Her mother retired under Chief Piotrowski.”

Unknown person – “Where is the City Administrator”, “what is the reason for tonight’s meeting”, why aren’t the State Police

Investigating”, City Administrator Comment, “snake”

Marv Garlick – “my wife being told that she can’t be here, chief takes time in hiring process”

Unknown person – “why, had no idea that the Chief did anything wrong, people aren’t happy”

Executive Session –

Pursuant to personnel matter pursuant to: 5ILCS 120/2(c)(1) The appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the public body or legal counsel for the public body, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee of the public body or against legal counsel for the public body to determine its validity.

RE: Employee Performance

Motion by Wachtel, second by Simosky to enter into executive session, Pursuant to personnel matter pursuant to: 5ILCS 120/2(c)(1) The appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the public body or legal counsel for the public body, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee of the public body or against legal counsel for the public body to determine its validity at 6:20 pm.

ABSTAIN:     0

ABSENT:      1            Garlick

Motion Carried

Motion by Wachtel, second by Johnson to return to open meeting at 8:54 PM.

Public Comment

Random public comments, “who paid for the meal you ate back there”, “many residents in this town feel something needs to be said about what is going on”, “your initial statement does not tell us what is going on”, “need a general statement about what is going on”.

Adjournment

Motion by Rothschild, second by Robinson to adjourn the meeting at 8:59PM.

Voice Vote. 7 Ayes. 1 Absent.

Motion Carried.
