Colona School District 190 Board met March 8.

Here is the minutes provided by the Board:

The regular meeting of the Board of Education was called to order at 6:32 p.m.

Present: Julie Wittenauer, Dennis Teichman, Lindsey Trickey, Ray Kutzman, Ricky McClintock and Julie Woods

Also Present: Carl Johnson, Mike Carlson, Chrissy Winters, and Rodney “Bill” Rossow

Rodney “Bill” Rossow was sworn in as the new board member per Board Policy 2:80

A Motion was made by Lindsey Trickey, seconded by Ricky McClintock, to adjourn the current board “Sine Die”

Voice Vote: 7 ayes; No nays; Motion Carried

The current Board was adjourned “Sine Die” at 6:34pm.

The meeting of the new Board was called to order at 6:34 pm.

Present: Lindsey Trickey, Julie Wittenauer, Dennis Teichman, Julie Woods, Ray Kutzman, Ricky McClintock, Bill Rossow

Also Present: Carl Johnson, Mike Carlson, Chrissy Winters

A motion was made by Dennis Teichman, seconded by Julie Woods, to appoint Carl Johnson as Temporary Board Chairperson.

Voice Vote: 7 ayes; No nays; Motion Carried

Motion was made by Ray Kutzman, seconded by Dennis Teichman, to appoint Julie Wittenauer as Board President.

Voice Vote: 7 ayes; No nays; Motion Carried

Motion was made by Ray Kutzman, seconded by Dennis Teichman, to appoint Lindsey Tricky as Board Vice President.

Voice Vote: 7 ayes; No nays; Motion Carried

Motion was made by Dennis Teichman, seconded by Ray Kutzman, to appoint Julie Woods as Board Secretary.

Voice Vote: 7 ayes; No nays; Motion Carried

Mr. Johnson lead a discussion on vendor contracts. He will look into which contracts are up for renewal. A-1 Janitorial has to go out for bid this year.

Mr. Johnson offered to be the Colona School Dist 190 representative for the Partner School Goals and United Education Foundation. The Board Agreed.

The PTA noted they will hold their next meeting at Grease Monkeys on March 15th at 5:30 p.m. They asked that Mr. Johnson be there and he plans to attend.

The Principal report noted the conferences were held February 15-16th. Elementary had 83% attendance and Jr. High had 44 conferences. Mason De Greve made it to round 5 at the regional spelling bee and finished in the top 12. 12 students attended the State Chess Tournament. PARCC testing will begin on April 3rd. We are developing a plan to improve the transition of students from 5th to 6th grade. Professional Development will wrap up Trauma and start the Growth Mindset Discipline: 16 ISS incidents with 12.5 days ISS and 11 OSS incidents with 8.5 day OSS.

The Athletic Director noted the girls’ basketball season is almost over. We will be hosting the tournament on March 10th. Track signups have started. The condition of the track is not good and we may not be able to host meets. Mr. Johnson will start calling around to get quotes. Scholastic Bowl is underway and we will be hosting the Scholastic Bowl regional tournament this year on April 25, 2018 and sectionals on April 30, 2018.

The technology report noted Mr. Taylor worked on the Window’s laptop for the CHIRP fingerprinting software, cloud print for staff chromebook, chromebook repairs, maintenance for untangle filter, update for Mac Minis, router maintenance. Teacher work stations are aging.

The maintenance report noted general maintenance was performed. There are 4 more furnaces that are ready to go. Mr. Johnson would like to start the process with the Architect for the Health Life Safety Amendment and get the rotation schedule started.

A Motion was made by Dennis Teichman, seconded, by Lindsey Trickey to approve Consent Agenda, which included the following items:

5a. Approval of Regular Meeting Minutes from February 8, 2018 

5b. Approval ofClosed Session Meeting Minutes from February 8, 2018 

5c. Approve Resignation of Staff: Leah Roberts (Bookkeeper), Carrie Pender(Café), Austin Hepner (Teacher) 

5d. Approve February 2018 Bills and Estimated Payments to be made prior to March 30th, District Treasurer’s Report and approval of the February Activity Fund

A Motion was made by Dennis Teichman, seconded, by Julie Woods to enter in closed session Discussion of Appointment, Employment, Compensation, Discipline, Performance or Dismissal of Specific Employees Pursuant to 5 ILCS 120/2 (c)(1)

The Board entered closed session at 7:21 p.m.

A Motion was made by Dennis Teichman, seconded by Lindsey Trickey to return to open session at 7:57 p.m.

Also Present: Carl Johnson, Mike Carlson and Chrissy Winters

A Motion was made by Ray Kutzman, seconded by Julie Woods to hire Connie McElyea as the Colona School Dist 190 Bookkeeper.

Roll Call Vote: Trickey – aye; Teichman –aye; Wittenauer – aye; McClintock – aye; Kutzman – aye; Rossow – aye; Woods – aye; Motion carried, 7 ayes; no nays

A Motion was made by Dennis Teichman, seconded by Lindsey Trickey to approve the BHASED Articles of Joint Agreement.

A Motion was made by Dennis Teichman, seconded by Ricky McClintock to adjourn meeting.

Having noted that all agenda items had been discussed, the meeting adjourned at 8:18 p.m.
