Rapids City Fire Protection District responded to 39 calls in 2017 - 14.7 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Rapids City included 30 fires - 11 structure fires, three vehicle fires and 16 other fires.

The department also received nine false calls.

The Rapids City Fire Protection District had an annual budget of $285,026 in 2017.
