City of Moline Historic Preservation Advisory Commission met July 9.

Approval of Minutes – June 11, 2018
Motion by Commissioner Mack, seconded by Commissioner Mizner to approve minutes of June 11,2018. Motion approved unanimously.
Reports:
• The Element Hotel & “The Q” depot
Jeff Anderson Informed the commission that a revised development agreement is to be reviewed by the PMT.
• Riverfront redevelopment, Depot Clock, Sears recognition
Commissioner Potter and Jeff Anderson reported that Depot clock and Sears history are still in the dialog of the redevelopment area. The Lakota group efforts are on hold awaiting some staff and Renew discussions. Park space remains primary to the new plan.
• Wilson House – no new report
• Prospect Park pavilion
Renovations are near completion. Commissioner Sandberg reported the award of a $5000.00 Landmarks grant to assist with the project and support from the Historic Preservation commission assisted in the process.
• Spiegel building - Two proposals were received by the city and are being evaluated.
• Fifth Avenue and Sear’s Buildings
Commissioner Mack reported that the law offices were to be moved by Friday, vacating the last of the Fifth Avenue building. Opening of the hotel is still August, 2019.
• Garfield School – Work is ongoing by Gorman
• Carnegie Building – No new report
• Rock Island County Court House – At a recent County board meeting attended by Commissioner Sandberg, she reported there was a motion to defer the transfer of the old courthouse to PBC for six months that was amended to ask County administrator for comment.
• Skelly Gas Station – 820 – 5th Avenue – Commissioner Mizner reported that renovations are under way and provided pictures of some repairs and painting. Jeff Anderson said zoning issues remain and possible solutions are being investigated by city staff.
• Main Street/Façade rehabilitation – A dog grooming business on Avenue of the Cities is under consideration for assistance siding and accessible ramps. Discussion is underway by the committee to develop guidelines to ensure timely completion of projects amid concern that some property owners are failing to meet deadlines.

• John Deere House – Commissioner Sandberg stated that she had received no reply to her correspondence with the owner.
• Downtown Heritage Tour – Commissioner Ege continues to place cards at businesses around town.
• Redevelopment of the Collector Center site- No report
• Redevelopment of Ray’s Appliance property- No report
• List of Moline’s historically and architecturally significant buildings –survey/inventoryCommissioner Mizner continues work on the inventory.
