WESTERN ILLINOIS UNIVERSITY RIVERFRONT CAMPUS: WIU Online Anthropology Degree Ranked Seventh in the Nation

Western Illinois University Riverfront Campus recently issued the following announcement.

The online bachelor's degree in Anthropology at Western Illinois University is ranked number seven in the 2019 Best Online Colleges Offering Bachelor's in Anthropology Degrees list by the SR Education Group.

Each school on this list has tuition under $23,000 per year and has a median salary by graduates as high as $105,167. WIU's program offers a flexible and convenient academic option to meet the growing demand for online courses.

This online program is great for students to balance their work and family life and offers the opportunity to gain better knowledge and understanding of human biological and cultural diversity. This program also addresses social and cultural consequences from a global perspective.

"As department chair of the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, I was very pleased to be notified that our Anthropology Online Program was ranked seventh in the recent report of '2019 Best Online Colleges for Bachelor's Degrees in Anthropology,'" said WIU Department of Sociology and Anthropology Chair John Wozniak. "I was informed that our Anthropology Online program's inclusion on this list showed 'high return on investment and commitment to affordability' for prospective students, upon a study to 'determine the best online colleges across the nation.' I can attest to the excellent overall quality of online instruction provided by each of our Anthropology professors, no matter if they are offering required or elective courses in our Anthropology Major Program. Congratulations to our Anthropology faculty upon their achieving of this great honor for our department, college and university."

The online program provides both live and recorded lectures using Zoom technology, which allows faculty to interact with students during the lecture or at a later time.

This online program began in Fall 2017 and was the first Anthropology program in the state, and one of the few in the nation, to offer the major online.

During the Fall 2018 semester, the following courses are offered online:

• ANTH 110 – Introduction to Cultural Anthropology

• ANTH 111 – Introduction of Physical Anthropology

• ANTH 249 – Native North American Cultures

• ANTH 353 – Cultural Psychology

During the Spring 2019 semester, the following courses are offered online:

• ANTH 110 – Introduction to Cultural Anthropology

• ANTH 111 – Introduction of Physical Anthropology

• ANTH 310 – Physical Anthropology Methods

• ANTH 315 – Gender and Anthropology

• ANTH 324 – Magic and Shamanism

• ANTH 410(G) – Anthrozoology

• ANTH 419(G) – Anthropological Theory
