WHBF-TV recently issued the following announcement.
We're now sitting at -27° in the Quad Cities - that means we're 1 degree short of the all-time record low!
9 p.m. update - We're sitting at -20° right now, and there's no reason to change the forecast now! We should drop to -29° after midnight tonight.
Previous post - Climate records go back to the 1800s for the Quad Cities. And out of all those fifty thousand or so days, the coldest temperature we've ever had is -28°. That happened on February 3rd, 1996.
That record is about to be broken.
We'll bottom out at -29° after midnight tonight. The wind won't be as bad so wind chills won't be as frigid as last night. But, they'll still be around -40° and that's why we have a Wind Chill Warning thru Thursday at 10 a.m.
We fell just short of the coldest wind chill of all time, and about 4 degrees short of the coldest daytime high temp ever in the Quad Cities today.
